When a friend of Dave's accidentaly let it slip to him that Dave was gay, thinking he knew already, Rich didn't care and told Dave that there ws no need to hide it from him in the first place. As their first year drew to a close, Rich mentioned that his Aunt's flat was free and Dave jumped at the cahnce to finally live in his own place.
